ANNA GUERRA, JD, MA, LPC

The Jung Center
5200 Montrose Blvd

or an afternoon at the Jung Center with Anna Guerra, a depth psychotherapist with

emphasis and training in Jungian psychology. Guerra

DWOW @ AURORA PICTURE SHOW

OBJECTS, MATTER, AND THE DREAM STATE

2442 Bartlett Street
Houston, TX  77098

and Aurora Picture Show
DiverseWorks on Wednesdays goes on the road to Aurora Picture Show for an evening of films related to Katie Grinnan’s exhibition, Nocturnal Hologram (on view at DiverseWorks through November 14). Dive into a surreal dream world with short films by avant-garde filmmakers who have inspired Grinnan, including Maya Deren, Stan Brakhage, and others. As Grinnan uses a network of video reenactments, objects, and images to create sculpture, these filmmakers use editing, jump cuts, hand-painted film, and assemblage techniques to create unusual relationships that allow for multiple interpretations.

SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 14, 3 PM
ASTROLOGY ORCHESTRA
PERFORMANCE AT THE JAMES TURRELL TWILIGHT EPIPHANY SKYSPACE AT
RICE UNIVERSITY

Co-presented by DiverseWorks and
Rice Public Art

Los Angeles-based artist Katie Grinnan’s
Astrology Orchestra is an ongoing symphonic performance project. Each instrument represents a planetary position and maps the artist’s astrological birth chart as seen from the perspective of each planet. The chart is translated into the strings of handmade instruments that are tuned accordingly. Echoing James Turrell’s pyramidal structure for the live performance in Houston, Grinnan will reference ancient astrology, a system which relies solely on planets that can be seen with the naked eye. Grinnan has performed this work in a series of significant artistic and architectural locations including Venice Beach, the 60-inch telescope at the Mount Wilson Observatory, and the Integratron, a structure designed and built by ufologist George Van Tassell near Joshua Tree in the 1950s.

CALL FOR PARTICIPANTS!
DiverseWorks is seeking six individuals to perform Astrology Orchestra with Katie Grinnan. Each participant will be cast according to his or her astrological sign. Music/sound performance experience is preferred but not required. As each sculptural instrument represents a planet, the following astrological signs are required:

Leo, to play the Sun instrument
Gemini or Virgo, to play Mercury
Taurus or Libra, to play Venus
Aries, to play Mars
Sagittarius, to play Jupiter
Capricorn, to play Saturn
