Denver Divers has the unique opportunity to visit this island with PRETOMA and Fins Attached, two non-profits working on marine conservation and research in the area.
Join us on Monday, October 19 as Dr. Alex Antoniou from Fins Attached tells us more about this island, the research being conducted to preserve its natural resources as well as your opportunity to be able to visit the island next year.

ENVIRONMENTAL NEWS: EARTHRAGING WITH ENGLISH NEEDS YOUR HELP!
Denver Divers has recently connected to an amazing group of women working on environmental conservation and education abroad. They are seeking masks, fins, snorkels, and wetsuits for kids, so they can donate them to a very well-deserving school in Thailand that was devastated by the 2004 tsunami.
Have an old mask? Snorkel? Want to help? Please read their story below and drop off your old gear at Denver Divers by October 15, so we can get it to Earthraging before they depart for Thailand.
What is Earthraging?
The service project Earthraging with English is seeking old masks and snorkels for Thai students learning how to swim. Two recent college grads started the program last year while teaching English in rural Southern Thailand through the fellowship program Princeton in Asia. Clare (who went to Cherry Creek HS and studied marine biology at Princeton) and Haley (who is from San Francisco and went to Duke) taught some of the most disadvantaged Thai students who lost their school in the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami. Halfway through the year, they realized that the majority of the students didn’t know how to swim, nor did they interact with their incredible marine backyard (which happens to be one of the most popular dive destinations in all of Thailand, the Similan and Surin Islands). Thus, Earthraging with English was born.
Clare and Haley led over 300 students on beach cleanups, taught water safe lessons at the beach, and explained the possibilities of one day becoming dive certified and working in the scuba industry, while stressing the importance of environmental stewardship. With the support from a local dive shop in the Khao Lak region, Wicked Diving, and a Princeton in Asia Carrie Bright grant, Clare and Haley are returning to Thailand this November to continue the program and expand it so more students have the opportunity to learn water safe skills and go snorkeling in their backyard reefs.
They are in need of old masks, swim goggles, snorkels, and wetsuits from the smallest child sizes to large adult sizes (the school is 700+ students, K-12).
Denver Divers will have a box in the shop for you to donate your gear. If you drop it off by October 15, it will make it to Thailand this season for their return trip. Clare and Haley encourage you to check out their website earthraging.org to follow the program through November and to even donate to support the program’s continuation into the future. They need financial support to pay for boat rentals for snorkel days. Their hope is the entire school can experience Earthraging, furthering marine protection at the local level in Khao Lak, Thailand.
Poseidon Mark Se7en25% Off Retail until October 31You’ve tried it in the pool. You’ve talked to Wendel. If you are ready to jump, now is the time!Diving a fully automated rebreather is scary and expensive. But once you weight the benefits of diving deeper,…staying longer, and not scaring away the fish…or sharks, seems to us to be worth the change. Do you know there is a whole reef system that lives below 180 feet at some dive sites? Did you know that’s where many of the pelagic species live? This is Poseidon’s first-ever promotion on this state of the art rebreather. Rebreather Instructor Wendel Benjamin is scheduling class and pool sessions soon. You can then get your open water certification dives done with us in Grand Cayman over Spring break.
Swim School of Denver News
The Swim School of Denver Fall – Winter – Spring session will not be a “session” – we will instead have continuous class times and dates from August 31 through the end of May. No need to renew your enrollment once you have a time and day you like.
If you do want to end your time before the end of May, just give us three-weeks notice to end your class enrollment. All tuition is pro-rated.
At Denver Divers in Cherry Creek, classes both private and group will be available for kids all day every weekday. If you don’t see what you need, give us a call.
At Denver Divers, we will continue to offer adult lessons Saturday morning and will add Sunday morning adult lessons through Christmas.
We are now open in the Highlands at the Clare Gardens recreation center, so check out our new schedule on the other side of town!
