Cheese Tasting with Valley Milkhouse and Madame Fromage

March 13 • 7–9pm • $35.00 • Tickets
Madame Fromage will guide guests through the tasting of four cheeses paired with a selection of beverages and light accompaniments. You’ll hear about the cheesemaking process and story behind featured cheeses, and learn more about tasting notes, and pairing profiles.
Dean Browne, local distiller behind Rowhouse Spirits will introduce you to his Bear Trap herbal liqueur and tiny batch Gin. We’ll have Philadelphia Brewing Company Cider as a bonus treat!
Madame Fromage is known around the country for her cheese blog and writes for various magazines and food publications, throws the best cheese parties in Philadelphia, and authored the book “DiBruno Bros. House of Cheese”.
Stef Angstadt • Valley Milkhouse: Stefanie explores old world style cheesemaking. She loves bacteria, mold and yeast equally, and is inspired by the French and Belgian traditions of developing a cheese’s character through the rind. She handcrafts each cheese with special attention to texture, and is always excited about allowing the terroir of the region – that sweet, bright creaminess that can only come from fully grass-fed herds of cows and sheep – to shine. She finds it fitting to name her cheeses after those pesky Pennsylvania weeds in the pasture: they represent the humble and inconquerable vegetation of our beloved home state – and they, too, are part of the terroir of the land.
Valley Milkhouse partners with nearby dairy farms for the highest quality milk in the region. The farms graze their animals rotationally on chemical-free pastures and never feed their animals grain. These are 100%, nothin’-but-grass fed milking herds – and the proof is in the curd!

With all of the snow, wind, & bitter cold we have had a fun week at Greensgrow & will be back, thisSaturday the 21st.  We return with some unique items that make spring feel closer. There will be Mad Dog Farm’s aromatic black garlic, mildly spicy arugula from Landisdale Farm, & Italian bread from Sarcones with plenty of Wholesome Dairy ricotta to cover it with. Porfirio pasta will be back as well with curly potato gnocchi & ravioli.   Aside from this we’ll be fully stocked with fresh high tunnel greens such as arugula, savoy spinach, & butterhead lettuce.

Need to ease the winter blues? Try some extra Vitamin C.  For the first time in Greensgrow history the farmstand will feature beautiful, organic, Naval oranges! We are still deeply committed to local farms and are making a one time only exception due to the astounding quality and ethical production. It’s 2014 and scurvy has no place on this farm.

Suzy Q’s been busy in the Greensgrow kitchen.  Due to popular demand Mary’s Pimento Cheese spread makes it’s farmstand debut.  It’s a rich, creamy dip with a bit of spice that goes well on crackers or in a grilled cheese.  We’ve got a robust potato & onion soup made with homemade stock, Jewish apple bread, and blueberry tart hand pies.  This week’s special tasting is a delicious carrot top pesto – one bite and you’ll never throw away your carrot tops again!

Come hungry because Mucho Bueno taco truck will be fired up from 11 am – 3 pm. Sue P from Misty Knoll farm will be present to school you on cuts of lamb & Stacy from Doe Run Dairy will be sampling her unique creations.  Let Tyler from Mycopolitan Mushroom expand your horizon with the most beautiful local mushrooms you have ever seen.

Check out the full list of what’s available this week.
