Oscar the Grouch, Stay Dry Pony Boy, and I Like to Muga Muga

Ok, it’s Oscar weekend.  That means lots of folks crammed into family rooms, drinking booze, eating food, and heckling the screen.  We’re going to do our part to help.  Last year we paired a wine with each Best Picture nominee, but this year we’re going to suggest a drinking game.

Drink once for every bad Charlie Sheen joke…

Drink twice for for every person who seems surprised that the ‘wrap it up’ music is telling them to shut their pie hole…

If Social Network wins Best Picture, consider throwing your drink at the TV but then stop and remember Crash actually won Best Picture so we’re not really starting from a point of sanity to begin with…

If Jeff Bridges thanks his dogs in any way again (or perhaps performs his whole speech in short barks), drink the rest of your drink out of a bowl…

If Robert Downey Jr. whines like a big crying cry baby who cries a lot and further proves he has no sense of humor, quote The Office outloud and bottoms up…

If God is thanked more than Hollywood Agents are, then drink a communion-sized sip…

REMEMBER, IT’S SUPPOSED TO RAIN THIS WEEKEND.  WE STILL OFFER CURBSIDE SERVICE IF YOU’RE ONE OF THEM “PLANNIN’ AHEAD” TYPES.   CALL AHEAD, SAY SOMETHING LIKE “I WANT TO SPEND $75 ON 3 BOTTLES OF WINE THAT DON’T SUCK AND HERE’S MY CREDIT CARD NUMBER” AND WE’LL SHUTTLE THEM OUT TO YOUR CAR WITH A SLIP TO SIGN.  WE’RE THAT FANCY.  OH YES.  STAY DRY, PONY BOY.

REGULAR WINE TASTING SCHEDULE

Friday Wine Tasting:  I Like to Muga Muga

TONIGHT! Friday, February25th, 2011

5:30 – 8:30 pm

$15/person for 5 wines + artisanal cheeses from Auntie Em’s

Well, the Spring weather came early and we are rightly getting pelted with requests for rose despite the fact that most of the 2010s are not out yet.  So, meet Muga Rose, one of our favorite 09 roses and a our official ‘bridge’ rose to the 2010s being released in a month.  Just a hair richer than Provencal roses, this pink pal has great minerality and strawberry notes.

If you decide to join us tonight, you will also be wooed by the soft, sultry tones of Pieropan Soave, a nutty, flinty, viscous white that, like a ninja, will slip quietly down your gullet and be gone before you have time to react.  And very unlike a ninja is customer favorite Fess Parker Frontier Red, a bodacious, spicy tailgatin’ wine that will eat your ribs for you if you don’t.  I have no idea what that last sentence means but it feels right.

Pieropan Soave, Italy

Muga Rose 2009, Rioja, Spain

Papa Luna Grenache, Calatayud, Spain

Fess Parker Frontier Red, Santa Barbara, California
