Hello Beer Fans!

Lots of good beer news on the pub front this
week. First, an update on what is on tap right now. We have several
great kegs from AleSmith on tap that we used in our tasting this past
weekend. Look for Lil’ Devil, Speedway Stout and AleSmith X in addition
to Nautical Nut Brown on the draft list. Avery Dugana and Port Mongo
are both flowing and tasting great. From Alpine we have Pure Hoppiness
and Nelson with a keg of Hoppy Birthday coming soon. And don’t miss
this year’s delicious batch of Sierra Nevada Bigfoot.

Tonight,
Wednesday the 23rd we have two specials going on. First is a fundraiser
for Operation Gratitude, which sends care packages to our troops in the
field. We will be donating $1 from every pint of Rogue Chatoe Wet Hop
sold. For more info on Operation Gratitude, or to donate online, please
visit www.opgratitude.com. We’ll also have a special on Young’s Double
Chocolate Stout glasses for just $1 each with the purchase of a pint of
the beer. If you haven’t had it, this stout is dessert in a glass. It
is served on nitrogen like Guinness for a creamy mouthfeel. The finish
has flavors of chocolate without being too sweet. Look for some great
Mexican food specials from Cesar in the kitchen.

Thursday night
we’ll tap a cask of Green Flash Hop Head Red at 5 pm. This isn’t one
that we get on cask too often so I am looking forward to having a pint
of this very hoppy red ale. If you haven’t heard, Green Flash is moving
much closer to us this year as they build a new (and much bigger)
brewery in Mira Mesa. Friday the 25th look for specials on Sam Adams
Noble Pils, which is a great traditional pilsner-style beer. We’ll also
have some new bottles on the list on Friday including Kern River Class V
Stout, AleSmith Barrel Aged Wee Heavy and Lost Abbey Red Poppy.

Saturday the 26th we are going to open up early and serve breakfast for
the SDSU v. BYU basketball game. We’ll open at 10 am and the game is
at 11 am – we’ll serve breakfast from 10 am to about 11:15 or so and
then switch to lunch just after 11:30. In addition to breakfast
burritos and other specials, we’ll also tap a keg of Ballast Point
Sculpin IPA to get everyone in the cheering mood. State is ranked as
high as number 4 in the nation and BYU is the team’s only loss (it was
on the road). This time, the game is here in town and on national TV on
CBS. This is the chance for a team that previous to this year has
never been ranked to make a major national statement. Come enjoy some
great breakfast food, a fantastic pint of Sculpin and cheer on our
Aztecs.

And while I am on the subject of the Aztecs, there are
only two games remaining after BYU. Tuesday, March 1st the team travels
to Wyoming at 7 pm. We’ll have Alpine Duet IPA on tap for the game.
And the final game of the regular season is on Saturday the 5th at 7 pm
at home against Colorado State. Don’t know what special keg we will
feature, but we’ll find something good for it. Look for a good bit of
March Madness to catch at the pub during the tournament, which starts
March 15th.

Looking Ahead

Next week we will have a
cask of Ballast Point Reef Rye on Thursday the 3rd. Friday the 4th will
see us have our first kegs of new local brewery Iron Fist from Vista.
Not sure what we will have on tap yet, but at the very least it will be
Club Tijuana soccer match at USD at 7 pm. I still have a few tickets
left at just $25 each. For those who have already reserved seats, I
will have the tickets available for pick up starting on Friday the
25th. The UEFA Champions League takes next week off, but knock out
games will resume on the 8th and 9th of March.

The following week
we have two great cask beers lined up – Alpine Hoppy Birthday on
Wednesday the 9th and Pizza Port Carlsbad Port Truck Stout with coconut
and rum soaked oak chips on Thursday the 10th. And I am already
planning beers for St. Patrick’s Day. We’ll be a having a little
pre-Paddy’s day party on the 16th with a cask of Ballast Point Sea
Monster Stout and beer boiled corned beef specials from the kitchen. On
the 17th we’ll have casks of Alpine Irish Red and Pizza Port Ocean
Beach Z Man Stout in addition to lots of great draft beers and amazing
food specials. And sometime in March we will be getting La Trappe
Barrel Aged Quadruple in bottles – as soon as I have a firm delivery
date, I will let you know.

Beer and Cheese Please

our next beer and food pairing, we will be teaming up with our friends
at Taste Cheese for a great evening of Beer and Cheese. The tasting
will be Sunday, March 27th at 6:30 pm and cost will be $40 (cash only
23rd. We already have some great pairings lined up using beers from New
Belgium, Russian River, De Ranke and Lagunitas.

And speaking of
food pairings, we will be participating in the 2nd Mission Valley Craft
Beer Festival at the Handlery Hotel on Sunday, March 27th. The event
will feature 30 breweries and 15 local chefs. Our O’Brien’s kitchen
team will be among the food booths. You can get a special deal on

That is your good beer news for now. We’ll see you soon for a great beer. Cheers, Tom
