MARCH 2011

George Rodriguez
Anne Drew Potter
PNW heads to Tampa

Spring is springing forward and I admit to being a bit anxious for her to make her
presence known. I have seen a few camellias though and the irrepressible rhododendrons
will be on our website on March 1st. Among things we are considering are new class
times. What do you think about 6:30-9:30 for the evening classes? We will keep you
posted on that. We will also have some more of our short stax, five week intensive
sessions. A lot to look forward to and there is a great sampling below of events
that are free and open to the public. We hope to see you here many times in the
next few months.

They Speak for Themselves:
George Rodriguez – 26 Countries in 10 Months

Mark your calendars! George Rodriguez, the globetrotting rooster will give an image
talk built around his travels to twenty six countries this past year. Along with
his MFA from the University of Washington, George was also the recipient of a Bonderman
Travel Fellowship. This award is granted to enable one to seek “world knowledge”.
The guidelines of the fellowship call for the recipient to undertake a solo travel
experience for a minimum of eight months, while visiting a minimum of six countries.
Among the twenty-six countries that George visited are Chile, Argentina, Peru, Japan,
China, Korea and much of Eastern Europe. Please join us Friday, March 4th at 7 pmfor
George’s image talk on his travels and a glimpse of his work before and after this
wonderful journey. There is no fee for this event and we look forward to seeing
you here.

Anne Drew Potter awarded the
German Chancellor Fellowship

Congratulations to Anne Drew Potter! She is the recipient of a German Chancellor
Fellowship administered by the Humboldt Foundation. This fellowship will allow
her to carry out a year long project at the Zentrum Fur Keramik in Berlin. We are
pleased for her award, but will miss her in the studio and the presence of her powerful
figures.

Please join us for an abbreviated farewell showing of new works made in her stay
at PNW. See Anne Drew’s work in the south gallery from March 14th through the 27th.
Please join us as for a closing reception with Anne Drew on Saturday, March 26 from
6-8 pm.

In the meantime, please take the opportunity to visit the south gallery for Duplicity,
the farewell exhibition of work from Alicia Basinger and Larry Laughlin. Gallery
hours are 10-5, Tuesday through Friday and of course by appointment. A little further
down the road in April we will host Flashback, a showing of works from some of our
recent artists-in-residence alumnae. The show will feature Stephen Sullivan, Julie
Lindell, Jamie Kirkpatrick, John Ellefson, Tammie Rubin and Bill Evans. You will
get a view to work they have created since leaving their residency stay at Pottery
Northwest.

Pottery Northwest heads to Tampa

Pottery Northwest will be traveling to Tampa, Florida attending NCECA (National
Council on Educators for the Ceramic Arts) at the end of March. We will have a table
display answering questions, and making connections with both old and new friends.
This is a continuing effort to build our resident artists program and bringing some
of the field’s very best and most promising to work here in our studio. You may
have heard ,and you will hear more I promise, NCECA will be in Seattle in 2012.
Pottery Northwest will be centrally involved. This will be enriching for the studio,
for anyone interested in ceramics, and for the ceramic field, especially the Seattle
clay community. Stay tuned!!
