Tartinery: The (Filipino-)French Connection
New York City is a gastronomical paradise, with more than 20,000 restaurants spread
across the city. According to reports, there are so many restaurants within the
five boroughs of the city that one could eat at a different one every day and
still not have tried them all 12 years later.

Despite the recession last year, a French restaurant opened its doors in the NoLIta
(North of Little Italy) neighborhood downtown. Foodies and francophiles found this
neighborhood gem and promptly fell in love.

Heaven’s Kitchen
There’s a new and exciting food joint in Intramuros, and it’s proving to be something
divinely inspired. Its paper placemats describe it as “a place for dining and relaxation
after a day’s toil,” and it surely alludes to the rigors and challenges of pastoral
work of the bishop in the whole of Catholic tradition.
A culinary sanctuary inside the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP)
compound, the restaurant is currently enjoying a good following among Intramuros
habitués and the clergy visiting the pastoral offices.

With the San Agustin Church in front of it, patrons may choose to enjoy al fresco
dining or even indluging in the mere view of the scene-indeed a transforming and
serene one in the walled city of cobblestone and heritage sites.

8 Philippine Destinations That Allow You to Make a Difference
Many of us probably have our bucket list of places for this year. I’m sure some
have even booked their tickets as early as six months ago when seat sales for this
year were offered online by airline companies. But how do we really choose the
destinations we intend to visit? By word of mouth, popularity or through the thousands
of sites and travel blogs that we read everyday? And when we’ve already made our
list, how many of us put in mind the kind of footprint that we want to leave in
these destinations? This consciousness is what we call Responsible Travel.
Responsible Travel is about more authentic experiences that enable you to get a
little bit more out of your travels, and give a little bit more back to destinations
and local people. It maximizes the benefits for the communities and travelers, and
minimizes the negative economic, environmental, and social impacts.

Paying it forward

The United States of America has long been considered as an ally of the Philippines
since World War II, wherein the USS Blue Ridge, a force flagship of the US Navy,
became a key in liberating the country from the Japanese conquerors. Since then,
the US makes sure that its ties with the country remain strong especially when the
need for an alliance comes.
Today, the US continues to reassure the Philippines of its continuous support by
sending the USS Blue Ridge ship once again. Last February 13, the ship docked
at Manila’s port for a good will visit as an effort to further strengthen its ties
with the country.
