New Federal Regulations Protecting LGBT Families
On January 18th, federal regulations protecting LGBT patients’
hospital visitation rights went into effect. These new regulations
require virtually every hospital in the country to permit patients to
designate visitors of their choosing and prohibit discrimination in
visitation based on a number of factors, including sexual orientation
and gender identity. Visit our Hospital Visitation Guide for more
information about these regulations. And learn more about protecting
your healthcare rights at

hrc.org/protect-your-rights.

On January 20th, the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD)
announced draft regulations that would protect LGBT families from
discrimination and make clear that federal housing programs are open
to all families. HUD is also in the midst of the first-ever nationwide
survey of housing discrimination against LGBT people. The new proposed
rule makes three important changes to federal regulations – read
more at hrc.org.

HRC Urges President Obama to Support Marriage Equality

On January 13th, the U.S. Department of Justice filed two appeals in
support of the discriminatory Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA). In
response, HRC is urging President Barack Obama to support marriage
equality for all Americans. In December, the President said that his
views were “evolving.” Join HRC today in calling on him
and his Administration to take the next step and embrace full marriage
equality for all Americans. Tell President Obama to support marriage
equality!

in the U.S. is most common in the South. Read the full article at
