Intersection for the Arts and ecoartspace present EcoArchive: Meditations on Time and Nature
Tamara Albaitis, one of the artists whose work is featured in EcoArchive, has just received the prestigious Eureka Fellowship Award. Click the image above for a preview of her installation on view at Intersection 5M.
Intersection for the Arts and ecoartspace present EcoArchive: Meditations on Time and Nature, a group exhibition of artworks that articulate contemplative environmental perspectives and time-based narratives in photography, sculpture, and video.
In an age where perceptions of time and space are influenced by the immediacy of text messaging and instant streaming content on the internet, these artists respond to the use and consumption of natural resources by naming the parts of nature that define our world. The work in this exhibition challenges us to step outside of our daily experience, to consider on a deeper level the forces that shape the natural world, and how time collapses as we move into the future. Some of the works are actual archives documenting the environment and landscape; other works are poetic manifestations of nature, providing another avenue with which to consider our awareness of ecological processes.
The exhibition is co-curated with Patricia Watts, founder and West Coast Curator of ecoartspace, a non-profit organization committed to developing creative and innovative strategies to address global environmental issues.
Featuring work by Tamara Albaitis, Mark Baugh-Sasaki, Karl Cronin, Sam Easterson, Cynthia Hooper, Chris McCaw, Matthew Moore, Chris Sicat and Jessica Skloven.

Hiding In Plain Sight, the first exhibition of multimedia artist Hasan Elahi’s work in San Francisco, is the latest installment of a much larger project, Tracking Transience, which began in 2004 and continues today. Falsely accused of involvement in the 9/11 terrorist plot, Elahi became the subject of an intensive F.B.I. investigation. After months of interrogations and nine consecutive lie-detector tests, he was cleared of suspicion. Following this harrowing experience, Elahi conceived Tracking Transience, a self-surveillance project that continually and publicly presents his exact location, activities, bank records, and other personal data.
January 28, 2011. HUB SOMA / Intersection 5M. $15.
Part of Intersection’s new approaches to cultural spaces at The Hub SOMA/Intersection 5M
Intersection for the Arts is San Francisco’s oldest alternative art space which provides a place where provocative ideas, diverse art forms, artists and audiences can intersect one another. At Intersection, experimentation and risk are possible, debate and critical inquiry are embraced, community is essential, resources and experience are democratized, and today’s issues are thrashed about in the heat and immediacy of live art.
