We are very pleased to announce the 2014/15 season featuring exciting productions including the West Coast premiere of Ghosts of Versailles with Patti LuPone and an LA Opera production premiere of Dido & Aeneas/Bluebeard’s Castle, a riveting pairing of one-act masterpieces exploring the fine line between devotion and obsession. The season opens with Plácido Domingo and Maestro James Conlon uniting once again for one of opera’s greatest masterworks, La Traviata, which will feature Plácido Domingo as Giorgio Germont and soprano Nino Machaidze as the courtesan, Violetta. Also featured is an intoxicating story of the transformative nature of love, Florencia en el Amazonas by Daniel Catán, the beloved composer of Il Postino, as well as a recital by the extraordinary Sondra Radvanovsky. The Figaro TrilogyThe second half of the season will be devoted to operas based on plays by one of France's greatest playwrights, Pierre Beaumarchais, whose adventures of Figaro were originally told in a series of three stage comedies. Now opera fans have the rare opportunity to follow the antics of Figaro, Count Almaviva and Rosina in the complete Figaro Trilogy with The Barber of Seville, The Marriage of Figaro, and The Ghosts of Versailles. Figaro Unbound: Culture, Power and Revolution at PlayThe trilogy will be accompanied by  a three-month celebration of the revolutionary spirit and the legacy of Beaumarchais. With a variety of programming for all ages, Figaro Unbound will investigate the ongoing relevance of Figaro and the Beaumarchais trilogy, as well as the many ways the arts can impact social change. Box Office opens to the public on June 22, 2014.
